Mediante este galard\u00f3n se pretende <strong>reconocer el esfuerzo y la trayectoria cient\u00edfica en el \u00e1rea de la investigaci\u00f3n oncol\u00f3gica del mejor joven investigador espa\u00f1ol<\/strong>, realizada dentro o fuera de Espa\u00f1a, y que haya supuesto la generaci\u00f3n, desarrollo y aplicaci\u00f3n de los nuevos conocimientos biol\u00f3gicos y cl\u00ednicos sobre el c\u00e1ncer.<\/p>\n<p>En la quinta convocatoria, el Premio Nacional de Investigaci\u00f3n en C\u00e1ncer \u201c<em>Doctores Diz Pintado<\/em>\u201d ha sido <strong>otorgado al<\/strong> <strong>doctor \u00c1lvarez Ferrando<\/strong>, que <strong>desarrolla su investigaci\u00f3n en la Universidad de Columbia<\/strong>, Nueva York, como profesor asociado de pediatr\u00eda y patolog\u00eda. El grupo de investigaci\u00f3n que dirige desde hace once a\u00f1os en la Universidad de Columbia est\u00e1 especializado en las bases gen\u00e9ticas y moleculares de las leucemias y linfomas de c\u00e9lulas T. Su trabajo destaca por ser pionero en el desarrollo de <strong>estudios gen\u00f3micos<\/strong>, de <strong>biolog\u00eda de sistemas<\/strong> y <strong>modelos animales<\/strong>, as\u00ed como terapias experimentales aplicadas al estudio de la leucemia aguda linfobl\u00e1stica T (LAL-T) y los linfomas T perif\u00e9ricos.<\/p>\n<p>El programa de investigaci\u00f3n dirigido por el doctor \u00c1lvarez Ferrando se centra en la identificaci\u00f3n de nuevos oncogenes y genes supresores de tumores, la caracterizaci\u00f3n de sus mecanismos de acci\u00f3n y el desarrollo de nuevas terapias dirigidas. Sus resultados han transformado el conocimiento de las bases gen\u00e9ticas y moleculares de estas enfermedades, han identificado nuevos marcadores moleculares de diagn\u00f3stico, pron\u00f3stico y resistencia, han establecido nuevas dianas de tratamiento y han definido nuevas combinaciones terap\u00e9uticas altamente eficaces actualmente en desarrollo cl\u00ednico.<\/p>\n<p>El jurado destaca la <strong>alta participaci\u00f3n de candidatos y su calidad<\/strong>. En la actualidad, el Premio Nacional de Investigaci\u00f3n en C\u00e1ncer \u201c<em>Doctores Diz Pintado<\/em>\u201d es el premio nacional de oncolog\u00eda que cuenta con m\u00e1s prestigio en Espa\u00f1a.
